GOVERNMENT SERVICES

Tourism is one of the most effective economic development tools available to local communities, but maximizing its impact requires informed leadership, sound policy, and strategic planning. SCTTA's Government Services Program exists to support elected officials, county and municipal governments, and public administrators by providing the expertise, data, and advocacy needed to make informed decisions that strengthen local economies through travel and tourism.

Our team serves as a trusted resource for local governments by translating complex tourism data into meaningful local insights, providing strategic consulting for tourism-related development opportunities, assisting with grant funding, and offering guidance on tourism policy and legislative issues. Whether supporting a community considering a major tourism investment, helping navigate state tourism laws, or advocating for policies that encourage destination development, SCTTA works alongside local governments as a long-term strategic partner.

We recognize that tourism touches nearly every aspect of community development—from infrastructure and quality of life to workforce development and economic growth. Our goal is to ensure local leaders have access to the knowledge, resources, and industry expertise necessary to make decisions that position their communities for long-term success.

Below is an overview of the services available through SCTTA's Government Services Program and how our team partners with local governments throughout South Central Tennessee to strengthen the travel economy.

  • County Travel Impact Reviews - Annual presentations that translate Tennessee's tourism economic impact report into meaningful county-level insights, helping local officials better understand tourism's contribution to their local economy.

  • Tourism Development Consulting - Confidential consulting for tourism-related development opportunities, investment projects, destination planning, and community partnerships. We work alongside local officials and prospective developers to evaluate opportunities and connect communities with industry resources.

  • Tourism Grant Services - Assistance with identifying funding opportunities, preparing grant applications, and administering tourism-related grants that support destination development, marketing, infrastructure, and hospitality initiatives.

  • Tourism Policy & Legislative Consulting - Guidance on state tourism legislation, tourism-related policy, and local ordinances that impact the visitor economy. We help communities develop policies that encourage sustainable travel industry growth.

  • Government Advocacy - Representation and advocacy for local governments on tourism-related issues. SCTTA serves as a strategic partner in legislative discussions, policy development, and initiatives that advance local tourism priorities.

  • New Elected Official Consulting—Orientation and educational sessions for newly elected officials, providing an understanding of the tourism industry, local economic impacts, funding opportunities, and the role tourism plays in community development.
